CECO Concrete Construction offers

construction and engineering-related degrees. After an initial
year of training, individuals can develop their careers through
the following positions, leading to further advancement and
positions of greater responsibility. |
Project Engineer
The Project Engineer provides critical construction
support for CECO's field operations on the construction site. Based
in one of CECO's district offices, a Project Engineer's involvement
in construction projects may include estimating, project pricing,
productivity studies, layout and layout assistance, quality control
measures, construction inspections, and safety inspections. These
functions require a technical understanding of construction methods
and materials. For new graduates, the position of Project Engineer
offers an opportunity to apply their education to a dynamic technology
that is constantly progressing. This varied experience, along with
the opportunity to learn all facets of job site operations, provides
the Project Engineer with the skills and experience required for
advancement into other positions within CECO, including project
management, project superintendent and estimating.
Project Manager
The Project Manager is CECO's representative
with general contractors, owners and engineers. Their primary role
involves the preparation of cost estimates and bid proposals for
CECO's scope of work on projects out to bid. Once a project is
sold, they serve as the company's lead representative in negotiating
contracts, making schedule commitments, and monitoring safety and
quality commitments throughout the job. Other functions include
meeting with project designers to discuss the consequences of various
designs and building configurations, as well as preparing engineering
calculations and AutoCAD drawings to present to the structural
engineer. Project Managers stay in close touch with the job site
to work on schedules and other field issues with CECO's Superintendents
and the general contractor. A CECO Project Manger is equipped with
the basic knowledge and experience that allows for advancement
into broader management and sales positions.
Concrete Formwork
Engineer
The Formwork Engineer in an integral part
of the district team, specializing in the design and engineering
of effective and economical forming systems. The Formwork Engineer's
activities include the evaluation of concrete and construction
loads imposed on a forming system. Engineering principles are used
to design systems that will support these loads using company-owned
framing materials and systems. The impact of these forming loads
and their safe distributions to the building under construction
is also analyzed. The engineer must consider the availability of
forming systems and choose the one that best suits the needs of
a particular project. Successful performance in this position is
the basis for advancement to positions of additional responsibility
within the company.
Project Superintendent
The Project Superintendent manages the day-to-day
job site activities on CECO construction projects. The Superintendent
communicates with the crew and the contractor regarding scheduling,
manpower planning, safety and forming issues. They develop plans
to ensure cost control and to maximize productivity and efficiency.
Communication skills are essential in this position, and the ability
to "think on your feet" is critical. Leading up to this position,
an individual will spend time as a Project Engineer or Assistant
Project Superintendent, developing the skills necessary to become
an effective field leader. As with other positions in CECO, this
can lead to more advanced management positions such as District
Superintendent and Field Operations Manager.
